The primary culprits contributing to these tragic incidents include texting, talking, and social media engagement while operating a vehicle. However, there are numerous other distractions that can divert a driver’s attention:

• Adjusting the radio
• Reaching for items within the cabin
• Utilizing GPS devices
• Applying makeup
• Observing scenery or billboards
• Consuming food and beverages

To mitigate these distractions, truck drivers must adhere to several essential practices:

• Pull Over and Park: When the need arises to send a text or make a call, drivers should prioritize safety by pulling over to a designated area and parking the vehicle before engaging with their phone.
• Keep Your Phone Out of Reach: Preventing access to mobile devices while driving can significantly reduce the temptation to scroll or text, thus minimizing distractions on the road.
• Spread Awareness: Encouraging fellow drivers within the trucking community to remain vigilant and avoid distractions is paramount for promoting a culture of safety on the highways.
