The State of Indiana is abuzz with the arrival of the much-anticipated 2024 IFTA decals, bringing a new aesthetic to carriers in the thriving trucking and logistics industry. Expect these decals to land in your mailboxes within the next two weeks, accompanied by a copy of your IFTA license. As part of our commitment to seamless operations, a digital copy of the 2024 license will also be sent via email.

In Portage? Drop by our safety office to check if your decals have arrived. Remember, having a copy of your license is crucial, providing a valid proof for up to two months, is a valuable assurance for carriers in the trucking and logistics sector.

 

STAY INFORMED: DRUG & ALCOHOL CLEARINGHOUSE UPDATES IMPACTING TRUCKING PROFESSIONALS

A groundbreaking development is set to unfold in the trucking and logistics landscape with a new law, effective November 18, 2024, reshaping the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. This system is gearing up to notify states about drivers in “prohibited status,” a significant concern affecting an astounding 146,000 trucking professionals. Positive drug or alcohol tests without completion of the “return to duty” process will prompt states to revoke commercial driving privileges, essentially canceling CDL licenses.

To regain CDL status, truckers must successfully navigate the “return-to-duty” process. Once the Clearinghouse updates their status to “not prohibited,” the state driver licensing agencies will process requests for reinstatement, underscoring the importance of compliance for professionals in the trucking and logistics industry.

After loading your trailer, ensure the closure of your conestoga, secure side kits, and, for those using open trailers, implement portable steps and railings before securing the load.

NEWS BULLETIN: NUCOR STEEL GALLATIN-FALL PREVENTION REQUIREMENTS

Starting December 18, Nucor Steel Gallatin will be implementing/enforcing in our Main Hot Band yard of no driver being on their trailer without fall prevention. Trailers with side kits and conestogas (roll tops) that are closed and latched, are considered as fall protection. This has been a project for some time in the making and we are happy to say that we have the portable steps and platforms that will be needed to make this happen. The week of Dec. 11th you will start to see some practice rounds with random drivers. There will be teammates/contractors that will be working with drivers on chaining from the ground/steps and tarping using the portable steps and railing that have been built.

We know this will be an inconvenience in the beginning. And we have every intention in helping everyone in the process.

We encourage you to please be patient. Like anything new, it takes time. We want everyone to go home just as they came in, SAFELY. We will have signs at the check in station and print outs for drivers to take. Soon signs will be put in place.

If a driver chooses not to tarp without being on their flat bed trailer, then they will have to tarp off of all Nucor Steel Gallatin property. This includes our staging area. In the weeks to follow there will also be similar platforms for GL and the Pickle. The same rules will also be followed there.

We will provide pictures of the set up and map where this will start taking place. Please dispatch to all your drivers of what to expect when loading out of Gallatin.
